from my current read. this book is a memoir written by a person who has had a very very interesting life (we're talking growing up with two mentally unstable parents, a brother with undiagnosed asperger's; mom reliquishes all parenting rights to her kids to her shrink, who later turns out to sexually abuse the author and hook him on drugs during adolescence). he just writes essays about his entertaining life experiences, and complies them into books. quite hilarious, dark, and interesting.
"i have always loved eavesdropping. but even more, i love knowing that somebody is eavesdropping on my own conversation. my former art director, greer, and i had a lot of fun playing games with people. we'd be traveling on business, off to l.a. to shoot a commercial, and we'd be sitting near the gate waiting for our flight and chatting. then we would become aware that somebody else was listening, so i would say 'honey, tell me you arranged for your parents to stay with the baby.' and she would feign horror. 'oh my f**king God, I totally forgot. the baby is alone. $hit. do you think she can last on her own for two days?' and i would reply 'well, i guess. babies are supposed to be pretty durable.'"

he is a kind hearted individual. another essay from this piece describes how he pays a 4ft. tall grandma an exorbant rate to clean his apartment each week, just because he cannot bring himself to fire her. the thing is, she only cleans 4ft. of his apartment (as far as she can reach). after paying her $12,000 dollars within 8 months to clean 1/3 of his apartment, he does, indeed, let her go.
